Some classes will be taking part in Operation Christmas Child this year. Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a chance for our students to help children in poorer countries at Christmas time.
Operation Christmas Child at our school works in this way. Students are asked to earn a minimum of $5 by doing extra jobs around the house for you or by donating their own money if they prefer. They bring this money into school by September 1. Mr Tyler will collect the money and use it to buy a range of small gifts for either a boy or girl. These gifts are packed into a shoe box and sealed. These shoe boxes are collected at school and transported to the Operation Christmas Child warehouse from where they are distributed to poor children in the poorest countries of the world. These children are so poor that the shoebox is usually the only gift that they receive all year.
The class will decide if they want the shoebox to be for a boy or a girl in the age ranges: 2-4 years /
5-9 years /10-14 years.
The gifts bought and packed into the shoebox are selected from the following categories:
Something to love: teddy bear, soft toy, doll etc
Something special: carry bag, sunglasses, necklace, craft kits, stickers, note, photo of the class etc
Something for school: exercise book, pencil case, pens, pencils, sharpeners, eraser, chalk etc
Something to play with: tennis balls, cars, skipping rope, marbles, musical instrument, yo-yo, slinky, finger puppets, wind-up toy etc
Something to wear: T shirt, shorts, underwear, cap, beanie, sandals, thongs etc
Something for personal hygiene: soap and face washer, toothbrush, hair brush, comb, hair clip, scrunchies etc
This is a great opportunity for students to learn the value of giving and of helping others. There is no compulsion for your child to take part but it is hoped that you will encourage and allow them to do so.
If you would like your child to participate, please allow them to bring in $5 or more by September 1. The money should be brought in an envelope and given to Mr Tyler directly and not through the money postbox.
